Month: September 2010
Wednesday 29 September, 06:19.
Dark, mild 13C, breezy, expecting rain. Went for one long lap of RV, steady pace. Rain started last 2km. Didn’t look at my HR or split times during the run and thought I’d gone a little faster than the stats show. Right knee a bit stiff during the working day, but nothing too bad.
Avg HR: 142bpm
Avg pace: 6:12 min/km
Saw doctors on 21 September for blood test results, an annual review. Total cholesterol was 4.3, compared to 3.7 and 3.8 last times. Bilirubin now 36, compared to 32, 32, 27 previous times.
As both are slightly raised from last time doc wants to check it’s not an upward trend so having another blood test in 3 months. But nothing to be concerned about. Just eat less pizza and chocolate etc to get cholesterol back on track 🙂
Doc again declined to fill in health form for overseas marathon (Rome), so going for plan B.
Saturday 25 September, 08:12.
Cool 4C, sunny clear blue skies. Went for an easy 2 laps of main lake at RV – 5 miles. Felt OK, didn’t watch HR or split times just kept it steady. Trying to keep good form I felt abdominal muscles/core tiring the last 2km, but no problems.
Skipped a run during the week to ease back after Nottm, felt a few tight muscles, twinges, esp in knees. Probably ligaments getting back into shape or adapting after the extended training and long run in Nottm.
Avg HR: 148bpm
Avg pace: 5:58 min/km
Monday 20 September, 06:18.
First training run since Nottingham Half. Seemed cool (11C), breezy, just before sunrise so wore yellow coat; didn’t need it really, it felt mild by the end of the run. Did one easy pace lap of both lakes at RV, didn’t watch split times just eased around. Felt OK, calves a bit tight for a few mins afterwards, then slight stiffness in knees and back in the day. Think it’s just the short break, getting joints working again. Next big run will be the Rome Marathon 20/3/11! Need to maintain fitness between now and the start of the 16 week marathon training schedule, and work on my core strength.
Avg HR: 138bpm
Avg pace: 06:18 min/km
Flat cadence chart again.
A sunny, warm day, breezy in parts of the route. Felt great and surprised myself with the early splits, far faster than I’ve trained at. Then the hill up to Nottingham Castle – steep and long, and runners around me said there were more on the route! The park section had long uphill sections too. On the last few miles I saw a few runners that had succumbed to the heat getting medical treatment. Was tired the last few miles and tried to keep a decent pace. Happy with the time and could not have done any better, pleased with my performance.
Thanks to Jeff and Jacqui for their support on the day.
Distance: 21.1km (Garmin = 21.29km)
Avg HR: 170bpm (peak HR: 181bpm)
Avg pace: 05:46 min/km (best pace: 4:45 min/km!)
Tuesday 7 September, 19:03.
Mild, sunny, went for one long lap after a heavy shower. Felt strong and nice easy run. Started at good pace and easy to keep it going – very even km split times. HR was high again at start, but wasn’t pushing that hard; settled back to normal in second half of the lap.
Avg HR: 156bpm
Avg pace: 5:48 min/km
Sunday 5 September, 07:13.
Mild, 14C, sunny with some cloud. Aimed to do one long lap at 6 min/km pace. Started fine and kept a slightly faster pace. Strange HR stats, much higher HR than my effort or pace warranted; probably bad belt contact, as it got more normal later on. Note the extremely flat cadence graph – like clockwork.
Avg HR: 153bpm
Avg pace: 5:49 min/km
