Month: October 2012
A cold day, 8C, cloudy and trying to rain. Ran the Worksop Half with Jeff. It was difficult to decide what to wear, as it was very cold standing around the starting area but I thought I’d warm up quickly on the run. Wore calf guards, lightweight running jacket and carried 2 gels in Hilly waist pack. I got a bit warm after a few miles and unzipped the jacket.
Felt strong for the first half, legs bouncy, enjoying the mostly gentle hills and countryside. It is a brilliant course, very scenic. Had a drink at the three water points and laughed at the sponge station signs at 8 miles. Left knee got a niggle half way through but nothing major. Jeff had a bit of stitch and ankle pain. With a couple of miles left we agreed to keep to a sensible pace and enjoy the run, rather than push it along and chase the clock. A sensible decision, I think, avoiding possible injury. My legs still felt strong towards the end, whereas last year my thighs were suffering at the end.
We’d run this race faster than my recent training pace, which was a challenge and resulted in a raised HR but I kept it going OK. A great run and very pleased to come in close to 2 hours. Maybe we will return again next year…?

10C, cool, breezy, and dark of course. Went for the usual 7 mile run around Rother Valley, but aimed to run slightly faster than recent runs. Felt good. Used head torch and compression socks. It feels like my fitness is returning, but I’m taking it steady.

Avg pace: 5:56 min/km

Cool, 11C, misty. Another 7 mile run, with head torch and compression socks. Ran at an easy pace and was surprised it was 2 mins slower than the recent bunch of runs I’ve done. Not worried, I wouldn’t have run faster with Worksop half marathon this coming weekend. Might fit in another run on Thursday or Friday. No niggles, a straightforward run.

10C, cool, drizzly and dark. I half thought about getting back to bed but decided the drizzle didn’t look too bad so went out. Only needed the head torch to get into RV, then switched it to a red dot. Settled into a nice easy pace and had no niggles. The drizzle became proper rain on the second lap. At the end I was pleased I’d got out and done the run. The time was in the same range as end of last week: 3 seconds slower than Saturday, 3 seconds faster than Thurs and Fri.
Avg HR: 145bpm
Avg pace: 6:10 min/km

Cool 7C, dry and clear skies, with the sun just coming up. Went for a 7 mile run, the third day in a row. Felt fine, decided to keep it slow and keep HR down to a reasonable level. Nice and easy and no niggles to report. Wore compression socks again.
Avg HR: 146bpm
Avg pace: 6:08 min/km

Cold 8C, misty at RV. Usual 7 mile run. Wore headlight again and needed it, but pointing the bright light into the mist for the first lap it tended to reflect back off the mist and I could see all the droplets coming towards me. With a bit more daylight pre-dawn on the second lap I managed quite well without it. Only a slight niggle on left knee. Wore compression socks and felt good. Did exactly the same time as yesterday to the second! Not a good time, but a coincidence.
Avg HR: 151bpm
Pace: 6:10 min/km

Cool, 10C, some cloud, some breaks. Went for a 7 mile run as usual. Slight niggle left knee but ran it off. Wore headlight for the second time but only needed it to get into RV. A good run.

Avg pace: 6:09 min/km
