5C, breezy, sunny. The plan called for a 2 hour 15 minute run, so I went round the Woodall, Harthill and Kiveton loop and added an extra lap of the northern lake at RV to make it 14 miles. Found it difficult to keep in zone 2 on the uphill sections, and in the last few miles my HR stayed high even though I was running quite slow; felt just like jogging along. Noticed left ankle niggle on and off during the later part of the run, but it wasn’t bad. Also felt the balls of my feet getting slightly sore, they might blister on a longer run.

A good choice of clothing – lightweight jacket and gloves. Had two gels and 500ml water. In fact the first gel didn’t open well and seemed to be leaking slightly from the bottom. I discovered as I stretched at the end that my shorts, jacket pocket and surrounding flesh were coated in gel! A great run in brilliant February sunshine.
