6C, mild and overcast with a brisk breeze from the south. Went for a 45 minute run, zone 2. Got the day off after the wedding weekend. Missed the long weekend run but don’t think it’ll affect my overall preparation for the marathon. Today was a straightforward run, no niggles and nice to run in daylight. The Garmin spiked for the first mile as I’d forgotten to wet it.

Distance: 7.4km (4.6 miles)
Time: 41:47
Avg HR: 150bpm (Garmin); estimated 145bpm
Avg pace: 5:39 min/km

3C, cold, breezy. Went for a 45 minute run in zone 2. No ice, no problems. Found I was running around 5:37 min/km (MPS) for a lot of the lap without trying today.

I’m undecided whether to fit in a long run Sunday evening or on Monday, as I can’t run Saturday due to Emma and Ashley’s wedding. Or skip the long run and carry on as normal next week.

2C, cold and icy, clear skies. Went for a 60 minute run, which included 30 minutes at ‘marathon pacing session’ pace. For MPS I aimed for 5:37 min/km, and found it hard to keep that steady pace. I seemed to go much faster and kept easing off. There was a lot of ice on the path, particularly the southern end. No problems and enjoyed the variation to my routine.

3C, cold, wet and windy. The plan called for a 60 minute run with 3x 400m intervals (200m recovery jog). Listening to the rain beating against the window I nearly stayed in bed. Glad I didn’t though. I wrapped up well and enjoyed the intervals. A strong southerly wind made the near side of RV uncomfortably cold, but it was great to get this run done and beat the weather conditions. The first interval was on the tarmac at the southern end, and I found it slippy in parts with slushy ice. I pushed hard on the sprints but it wasn’t easy to get into zone 4 for the short distances required.

Time: 1:02:47
Avg HR: 141bpm
Avg pace: 5:52 min/km

6C on house thermometer; 4C on car dashboard; felt even colder at RV. Went for an after-work run due to my morning being too busy with wedding stuff. Didn’t really feel like it, but I expect the weather to worsen later in the week so I’m trying to stick to the schedule which calls for a zone 2, 45 minute run. The moon shone bright and lit the path. Saw a few other runners with head torches, one of which was as bright as a lighthouse! Halfway round the running felt easier and there were no dramas.

4C, windy and sunny. The plan called for a 2.5 hour run in zone 2. I ran out past The Pebley, back through Harthill, Kiveton and Wales, into Rother Valley and did an extra loop of the northern lake to get the time in and make it 16 miles. Kept the pace easy throughout but on the hills was unable to keep HR in zone 2. Legs had a lot of bounce, running light, and felt great. The very strong southerly wind had me running on the spot in several places, but carried me along from Harthill to Kiveton. Tired a bit towards the end but no problems. Drank 500ml water and had 3 gels.

5C, light rain, windy. Went for a 45 minute run at zone 2. Legs felt good, strong and bouncy running on forefoot, dodging between the puddles. Had a bit of stiffness in right calf at the start, and a minor left knee niggle that came and went. Seems like a slightly faster pace than recently but at the same heart rate: perhaps the training is working 😉
