4C, cold, breezy.  Did a 10 mile run today, three laps of Rother Valley.  It makes such a difference running in daylight, being able to run easy and know where my feet are landing helped my pace.  Early cloud cover shifted to make for a lovely sunrise.  It seemed like my pace improved each lap, got a second and third wind, but haven’t looked at the detailed data.  Felt thirsty and could have done with carrying some water.  Pleased with progress, did 31 miles this week: 7+7+7+10.

3C, cold, breezy.  Went for another 7 mile run.  So cold I wore gloves for this one.  Slight drizzle for the first lap, but only noticed it because of the run light.  I didn’t check Garmin at all during the run, and it’s really difficult to judge pace running in the dark and zig-zagging the path to avoid the deepest puddles.  All the same I was surprised at the slow time, probably a record slow for me going back a few years.  Felt some niggles during the run – right heel, left shin – but on the second lap I had a spell of stronger running and I wonder if it’ll show on the km splits if I have a check; better running with glutes working and hips flowing.

6C, rainy, windy, dark.  Another 7 mile run.  Heavy rain on the first lap, light rain on the second lap. My thighs were very cold and struggled to function in the headwind, then recovered on the other side of the park. Lots of the route was covered in deep wide puddles, sodden ground on either side so just ploughed through. My feet were sodden and every step squelched. A tough run but all part of winter marathon training. Bring on the ice and snow forecast for next week!

7C, dark, breezy, raining.  Went for a 7 mile run.  It rained for the first lap, then just light showers on second lap. Apart from one other runner I passed, I had the park all to myself.  Lots of big puddles to dodge around or plough through.

6C, cool, breezy, overcast. An 8 mile run today. Had thought about doing 10 miles but tweeked my right knee while out shopping yesterday so didn’t risk it. Heavy overnight rain left lots of wide puddles on the route.  Didn’t feel a knee problem while running, only noticed a stiff left calf on the second lap but it wore off quickly. Pleased to get four runs in this week totalling 29 miles.  Will be more of a challenge keeping to the marathon schedule with a return to work tomorrow.
