13C, rain, heavy rain. An 8 mile run commute home, aiming for an easy pace.

Felt a little niggle in lower back left side while climbing Manor Lane, about 1.5 mile in.  It came and went, and by the end had disappeared. Legs felt good and I unintentionally pushed a bit harder than intended, probably trying to get home faster while actually enjoying the horrible weather.  Drank 350ml water.

0C,cold but no wind, clear blue skies.  Lots of snow and ice around so just planned to to a 4 mile run.  Felt back and glutes when I woke up, after shifting snow yesterday, then sitting around a lot.  But it eased a bit when running and no significant problems.  Carried an old phone in case I slipped and broke something, and used it to take a few scenic pictures. Not bothered about the pace/time, just pleased to get around without slipping and falling.

Friday 26 December, 09:08. Boxing Day.

3C, cold, overcast. Went for another 6 mile run, two laps of the main lake. Felt a few niggles on and off; lower back, right glute, right calf, left shin. But felt strong and was pleased to maintain a reasonable pace. Wrapped up well expecting a biting cold easterly wind, but it wasn’t too bad and I was a bit too warm on sheltered parts of the lap. Afterwards back felt slightly stiff and right hip has a niggle.

7C, cold, mostly clear skies. This was my first back to back run (ran yesterday) since the injury. Thought I’d get another run in as I am travelling on Saturday and not sure if I’ll manage a morning run on Sunday. The usual 4 miles. Noticed right glute and hip from early in the run but it didn’t become a real pain, just a niggle. Felt slow, but was hard to tell pace as my run light ran out at 2km. No after-effect from running back to back, but noticed left adductor much, much later, when out shopping in the evening.

12C, light drizzle, dark and breezy. Another 4 mile run, this time really mild weather so just shorts and tshirt. Had a bit of bounce for the early part of the run. Later on I could feel my right glutes slightly but nothing in lower back. Same sort of run time as on Tuesday and no after-effects.

6C, dark and drizzly. Went for a 4 mile run. Probably overdressed for the temperature, and felt a bit sluggish, heavy, even running 6:00 min/km pace. Didn’t feel right glute till the last part again, and ran with my normal gait. Right thigh seemed to be working hard and left calf was a bit stiff. Afterwards there was no reaction from back or glutes but right thigh (esp VMO) seemed well exercised, a bit stiff. Probably just reawakening a few dormant muscle groups 🙂

4C, cool, grey, breezy. Went for a 4 mile run. Wrapped up after frost overnight, and found a few icy bits en route. Lower back was slightly off, but not uncomfortable, and right hip was fine. Didn’t feel right glute until the last few hundred metres to home. On this run my neck and right shoulder caused me more pain than my back/glutes after dozing on the settee last evening! Felt like I was running my normal stride and cadence today, whereas previous recovery runs had been a shorter stride, faster cadence, like shuffling along. Much better today and very little after-effect.
