The Blades

Went to watch The Blades v Reading at BDTBL on Sat 15/11/08. Brilliant seeing Jeff but a shame we lost 0-2. Played best in 2nd half, but Reading too good for us this time. A bogey side for us, and with Birmingham and Wolves they’re the 3 clear leaders of the Championship and vying for the 2 automatic promotion slots.

So far this season have been to:
Blades v QPR 16/8/08
Huddersfield v Blades (Carling Cup) 27/8/08
Blades v Cardiff 30/8/08
Blades v Watford 27/9/08
Blades v Bristol 4/10/08
Blades v Plymouth 1/11/08
Blades v Reading

Kiveton Fisheries Weds 06/08/08

First session at Kiveton Fisheries. Arrived 3pm ish, nice weather – bright, getting sunny spells, hardly a breeze. Chose peg 58 on the lower pond. Fished pinkies with a closed-end feeder, simple rig. Caught a fish (roach) first cast, but didn’t get a pic of it. Started taking pics of the others, to keep track and help identification(?), as keepnets not allowed. Total of 8 small fish.

Decided to shorten the line to the feeder so the hookbait stood out lower down. Think this helped.

Fished till 7.30ish. Decided to stop when my end tackle flew off into the distance as I tried casting out into the middle – had been fishing near-in all the time.

Had trouble with some of the knots coming undone. Lost two fish that dropped off right at the end – one while I tried to get the camera ready! Also learning when to strike – lots of nibbles – liked feeling the bumps and line bites, but pulled in the rig far too often other times my bait had been nibbled before I decided to reel in.

A very enjoyable session.

Fishing from 14:45 to 18:50. Caught 2 small (tiny) pike. Spinning and plugs. Lots of snags and lost a few bits of tackle, but worth it for my first fish of the season!

The bailiff didn’t come round so that saved me £4.20!

Breezy and threat of showers but stayed dry.

First fishing session of the season!

Pebley Reservoir £5 day ticket..

Arrived – just after 10.00. Left about 15.00.

Weather – very nice sunshine, not too much wind, sometimes even calm.

Fish NIL.

Just getting used to tackling up, casting, recovering stuff from trees and bushes nearby.

Lost 1 float after it got stuck in tree to left.

Recovered float after getting stuck in bush to right.

Had a laugh over a fantastic cast on ledger rod, tackle going way out, then realised a knot had given way and the hook, bait, and lead wasn’t still attached to main line!!

Fished with spam, sweetcorn and chick peas. No bites.

A peaceful session and very enjoyable. Good to practice without being overlooked by other anglers.
